A Journey through Jewish Festivals

A Journey through Jewish Festivals

This week, the Prep School enjoyed an engaging assembly led by Mr Salem, Deputy Head (Director of Studies) at the Senior School, who introduced the pupils to two significant Jewish festivals: Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

The pupils discovered how Rosh Hashanah marks the Jewish New Year, a time for reflection and new beginnings. They were especially fascinated to learn about the blowing of the shofar, a ram’s horn traditionally sounded during the celebrations, which calls people to pause, think about their actions, and look ahead with fresh intentions.

Mr Salem also explained the meaning of Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, a time when people seek forgiveness and make amends. Together, the pupils reflected on the values of kindness, honesty, and renewal that lie at the heart of both festivals.

It was a memorable opportunity for our pupils to broaden their understanding of different faiths and to consider how these themes can inspire our own school community.
