Tasty Wraps & Happy Faces at Healthy Eating Workshop!

Wednesday brought Healthy Eating Workshops to the Prep School courtesy of Marnie and Annabel from Lodestone House.

All children learnt about the Eatwell Guide including how important vitamins are – for instance, Vitamin C helps boost our immune systems, the B Vitamins are great for our nervous systems and Vitamin A is brilliant for our eyes. We also learned that carbohydrates are the body’s preferred source of energy and proteins help our muscles and bodies grow. Other parts of our diet such as fibre from whole grains help digestion, water keeps us hydrated, while oils and spreads are needed in small amounts to look after our internal organs and support brain health.

It was interesting to see what a portion of fruit or vegetable should be when counting towards our 5 a day – and we carry the measure around all the time…our hand! And as our hands grow in proportion to our bodies, this guide is good for all our lives.

The Pre Prep Children then made their own portraits from fruit and vegetables and the Prep Children made rainbow wraps. They all got to eat what they had made afterwards which was the best part! Hopefully they will make healthy choices when choosing their lunch.

It was a fantastic day full of learning, creativity, and healthy fun!
