Exploring London Together in Reception

Exploring London Together in Reception

Over the last few weeks, the Reception children have been thoroughly enjoying their learning all about London. They began by sharing their own memories and photographs from trips into the city, which sparked lots of excited conversations and helped the children make personal connections to their learning.

The children have been busy discovering London’s most famous landmarks and sights. They worked collaboratively to create large collages, and they carefully coloured Union Jacks to celebrate this iconic symbol of the UK.

As part of their exploration of the River Thames, the children designed and built their own bridges, thinking carefully about how structures are made. They also carried out a fun science investigation, exploring floating and sinking by creating boats and testing whether they would float on water. The children thoroughly enjoyed this hands-on learning activity and gave thoughtful predictions as to the results of their efforts.

The children also loved learning about Paddington Bear and his adventures in London, especially his memorable high tea with the Queen. Inspired by this story, the children made their own sandwiches and enjoyed a delightful tea party with their friends. It was a lovely opportunity to practise independence, social skills, and to celebrate their learning together.

It has been a wonderful topic, full of creativity, discovery, and enjoyment, and the children have shown great enthusiasm throughout.
