Taking Prep by Storm!

Check out the Global Projects here!

This term, pupils across KS1 and KS2 have risen brilliantly to the challenge of our optional Global Enquiry Project: Build the World — and what an extraordinary response it has been!

Designed to stretch and challenge thinking, the project invited children to explore a significant concept in History, Geography or Religious Education by becoming researchers, designers and presenters. The driving question at the heart of the project was:

How does the world work, and how do people understand it?

From this powerful starting point, pupils embarked on independent enquiries, combining careful research with creative model-making and thoughtful reflection.

The range and quality of submissions across both KS1 and KS2 has been nothing short of phenomenal.

Some of the examples we have seen have included:

  • A dramatic working model of a tsunami, clearly explaining cause and effect
  • Detailed volcano models comparing shield and composite structures
  • Powerful projects exploring global warming and how we can protect our planet
  • A beautifully constructed model of the Golden Temple (1577), demonstrating historical and religious understanding
  • Thoughtful interpretations of ecosystems and human adaptation

Each project went far beyond simply “showing” a topic. Pupils explained processes, used ambitious subject vocabulary, labelled models carefully and demonstrated real conceptual understanding. What has stood out most is the depth of thinking behind the creativity.

Children:

  • Used multiple sources to research independently
  • Identified cause and effect relationships
  • Collected and applied key vocabulary confidently
  • Reflected thoughtfully on how their understanding had developed

The presentations have been equally impressive. Pupils spoke clearly, answered questions using precise terminology and demonstrated genuine pride in their work.

This project was designed as a stretch opportunity — and our Prep pupils truly embraced it. The independence, originality and academic ambition on display reflect exactly the kind of curiosity-driven learning we aim to foster. Mrs Deale has been absolutely delighted with the response, commenting on the exceptional effort, imagination and intellectual engagement shown across the school.

It has been wonderful to see children from both KS1 and KS2 engaging so enthusiastically with big ideas about our world — from natural disasters and climate change to sacred buildings and life in the past. The project reminds us that when given the opportunity to think deeply, research independently and create purposefully, pupils truly shine.

A huge well done to everyone who took part — you have quite literally helped us Build the World!
