Prep School Maths Bee Competition!

Prep School Maths Bee Competition!

With ‘Bees’ a plenty in the calendar for this year, last week saw the turn of the Prep School Maths Bees. The preliminary rounds took place in class with many children putting themselves forward for the task and doing extremely well. In all classes, teachers had to provide more questions than ever to whittle the children down to the final two. These then went through to our two finals: one for Year 3 and 4, and another for Year 5 and 6. First up were Year 3 and 4 – they showed an outstanding knowledge of times tables and related division facts and after numerous questions, we eventually got down to our final two contenders. Turning to mentally solving multiplications questions, they provided correct answer after correct answer and so it came down to one final question, with the first to answer taking the crown and this went to…Fraser (4C). A huge well done to him, a worthy runner up in Zainuddin (4S) and all the Year 3 and 4 finalists.

Next up were Year 5 and 6. Just like the day before, we provided them with question upon question, getting more challenging as we went on until we reached our final two children. In a repeat of the Year 3 and 4 Maths Bee, the final two could not be separated, so it was again decided by a final question with the first to give the correct answer taking the glory and this year, the winner was…Noah (5S). Phenomenal mental maths skills from Noah and the runner up, Abdullah (6M). Well done to all the finalists and in fact all the children who put themselves forward.
