3D Printing Brick by Brick
Although 3D design has generally been something that we have begun in Year 5, Innovation Pioneers club has allowed more children than ever to try out new technologies, develop new skills and find new passions when the time is right for them.
As a result of this, and feedback from children in their lessons, Year 4 has recently added an introduction to 3D design to their Digital EDGE curriculum this term, creating designs linked to their Global theme, but it doesn’t stop there.
A few children in Year 3 have also taken to it with great enthusiasm and Tristan (3KT) has become one of our most active designers. Taking his passion offline and in a more practical direction, he set himself the challenge of building a working model of a 3D printer at home, complete with a moving print-head, a reel of filament to print with and a few stickers for authenticity. Further refinements are planned, but in the meantime, he is back to the design suite to work on his next creations.
