Caterham at the Forefront of Education Research
At Caterham we are relentlessly curious about how learning happens. Studying external research is often helpful, but nothing informs our teaching practice better than the small-scale research that we undertake in our own classrooms.
To underline how important nurturing a culture of enquiry amongst our teaching staff is, Mr. Wells was appointed to the new role of Director of Training & Research in 2023. Over the last 3 years we have conducted over twenty small scale studies, ranging from the importance of Wait Time after asking children questions, to exploring which knowledge organisers are most effective at encoding information in our long-term memories.
Our latest research collaboration with HMC (The Heads’ Conference) and Warwick University underlines how we are at the forefront of educational research. We are looking at how to embed coaching skills into our day-to-day classroom practice. This study combines our commitment to the highest quality teaching whilst establishing and maintaining a coaching culture where students are trained to think for themselves, rather than to always need a teacher the moment they are stuck.
