Adventure Day at Year 6 Bushcraft Trip!
The day began with blustery winds but glorious sunshine—perfect conditions for an outdoor adventure. We adapted quickly, warming up with some true-or-false challenges and lively songs to set the tone for the day.
Our first skill of the morning was whittling. Pupils learnt how to safely use a knife to carve their own tent pegs. They worked carefully and confidently, producing some very creative pegs to take home and treasure.
Next came paracord bracelet making. This activity tested both patience and perseverance as pupils mastered weaving techniques with plenty of focus—and a helping hand from teachers when needed. The finished bracelets made a brilliant keepsake of the day.
Before lunch, everyone took part in a first aid session. Children learnt essential skills, including how to respond in emergencies and even practise evacuation techniques. The activities encouraged teamwork, communication, and problem-solving, all through fun, practical scenarios.
The afternoon was lighter and full of energy. After some games, pupils enjoyed a nature walk through the beautiful Kent countryside, putting their tree and plant knowledge to the test. Then came a camouflage and concealment challenge—faces and clothes were transformed with imaginative designs that blended perfectly into the woodland setting.
Finally, with happy but tired smiles, Year 6 said goodbye to bushcraft. It was a day packed with new skills, laughter, and adventure—memories to share for years to come. Well done, Year 6, on a fantastic day of teamwork and discovery in the woods!
