Animal Magic at School
There was great excitement across the Prep School this week as pupils in Years 3 to 6 enjoyed a truly memorable Animal Magic experience, as part of British Science Week.
Throughout the day, each year group spent an hour meeting a fascinating collection of animals and learning more about the natural world. The session introduced pupils to a wonderful variety of creatures, including a kinkajou, Pygmy hedgehogs, sugar gliders, rabbits- (angora, mini lops, dwarf lops, lion heads, and velvet), chinchillas, guinea pigs, tortoises, and even some friendly ducks.
The children were captivated as they learned about each animal’s habitat, diet, behaviour and the environments in which they live. It was a wonderful opportunity to bring learning about animals and ecosystems to life in a very tangible and engaging way.
One of the highlights for many pupils was the chance to gently handle and touch the animals, helping them develop confidence and a deeper appreciation for wildlife. There were plenty of smiles (and a little amazement!) as pupils experienced these unusual creatures up close.
To make the day even more special, pupils were also given the opportunity to have their photograph taken with a magnificent owl — a moment many will remember for years to come.
Experiences like this help nurture curiosity, empathy and respect for the natural world. It was a joy to see the enthusiasm and wonder on the children’s faces as they encountered animals they might otherwise never have the chance to meet.
A huge thank you to the Animal Magic team for bringing such a fascinating and engaging experience to our school.
