Autumn Term Debating Competition 2022
This week we held our first Debating competition of the year. We have been discussing human characteristics and qualities, debating which are the most important to human existence. Teams prepared a speech to persuade the judges that their choice was of primary importance to humans. It was an excellent start and for the first time every single member of the Society felt confident enough to speak in front of the audience. Speeches were graded on delivery, content and persuasive language. After each team had spoken, four teams were selected to take part in a live debate where they attempted to challenge the points made by the other team. This required quick thinking and the ability to listen and respond to the specific points being put forward with no preparation time. An excellent standard of debating ensued, resulting in the following positions:
1st: Isaac and Johanna – ‘Curiosity’
2nd: Olivia, Ishaani and Mia – ‘Collaboration’
3rd=: Sara, Sophia and Ayla – ‘Happiness’
3rd=: Noah and Tom – ‘Resilience’
