Celebrating Inclusion Assembly with Makeway Foundation

This week, Prep school gathered for a memorable assembly marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. We were honoured to welcome the Bryant family, who delivered an inspiring presentation about their incredible charity, MakeWay.

The assembly began with an exciting demonstration from Henry and Molly, who amazed everyone with their wheelchair tricks, including some impressively controlled wheelies. Many children recognised the wheelchair Molly used, a distinctive green chair with flashing castors that belonged to her brother Toby. Toby died in 2024, he was a great friend to many at Prep, especially our Y6s, and he is greatly missed by the whole community.

Mrs Bryant shared the story behind MakeWay, a charity dedicated to raising money to provide wheelchairs for children who need them. She spoke passionately about the life-changing impact the right equipment can have. As she explained, “For me, my wheelchair is my freedom.” Her words highlighted the powerful difference inclusion and accessibility make in helping children live full, independent lives.

A key message of the assembly was the importance of ensuring that no child feels isolated because of their disability. Mrs Bryant encouraged all pupils to take simple, meaningful actions: “If you’re at a party or in the playground and you see a child with a disability, be the first person to ask them to come and play”. She reminded everyone that “Every child deserves the chance to be a star.”

The Bryant family’s message of kindness, inclusion, and awareness left a lasting impact on everyone who attended. We are grateful for their time and the inspiring work they do through MakeWay.  If you would like to find out more about MakeWay please follow the link to their website.
