Fantastic Week for Cricket
U11A girls cricket team have had a smashing week in the sunshine, performing well with both the bat and ball.
They started the week with their Surrey County StarBurst Group matches held at Croydon High. Caterham faced the hosts in the opening match opting to field, two early wickets in the opening overs and some superb bowling restricted Croydon to 26 runs in 8 overs. Caterham took opportunities in bat and achieved a run of boundaries to settle into the game and despite losing 3 wickets, Caterham maintained their lead to win by 14 runs. Next up were Hazelwood, a team the girls met a few weeks ago and notched up a fine victory. This time, Hazelwood were more alert in the field and kept Caterham on their toes. Fortunately, the girls held their nerves in the closing over and secured the win by a narrow margin-2 runs. Going into the final game against Royal Russell, Caterham were determined to finish on a high and with some fine batting, playing the ball around the field and some excellent bowling, the girls closed out the match taking victory by 40 runs. As winners of the Surrey EAST group, we now await details of the next round- well done everyone.
Not content with their three victories at the start of the week, the U11A team dominated the match against Hawthorns on Wednesday afternoon, restricting Hawthorns to just 11 runs with a barrage of wickets and run outs, the girls knocked the ball from one boundary to another, taking the win by 70 runs! A fantastic week all round.
