Girls’ Cricket Season Wraps Up

Girls’ Cricket Season Wraps Up

The girls wrapped up their cricket season this week with tournament play and matches against Hazelwood and Lingfield.  The U11A kicked off the week at the Surrey County Finals Day at Horsley and Send Cricket Club.  A few tight matches, with the girls bowling excellent deliveries and some superb catches, they finish as one of the top six schools in Surrey-a fantastic achievement!  The U8s hosted three teams from Hazelwood on Tuesday, and it was great to see the progress our youngest cricketers have made over these last few weeks.  The A’s bowled really well, taking wickets, run outs and limited the Hazelwood attack to 28 runs.  In bat, the girls took a few initial singles before the boundaries started to flow, and the team capitalised on the short bowls, reaching 82 runs.  The B’s was a closer affair, again with some excellent bowling, particularly from Poppy W and Lea J, Caterham lost out by 5 runs in the end.  It was a ball for ball affair on the C pitch, with Caterham edging the win by 4 runs.  Well done U8s a super first season.

On Wednesday, a number of girls from Year 5 joined the boys to play a mixed B and C fixture against Copthorne Prep.  The Bs played very well in all aspects of the game, taking the win by 32 runs.  The U9s wrapped up the week away at Lingfield, with the A’s putting on a fine display of bowling and despite some strong hitting from Lingfield, Caterham edged the victory by 4 runs.   The Bs again bowled brilliantly but it did allow Lingfield to get good contact on the ball and score plenty of boundaries, Lingfield were not as consistent in the field but Caterham struggled to get bat on ball for runs.

Good luck to the U11A six a side team on Saturday as they head off for a hardball tournament against Hawthorns, Rowan Prep and Hazelwood.
