Let’s Get Reading

Book worms: Whilst popping in and out of the Pre-Prep classrooms this week, sharing lots of different books and stories with our younger readers and discussing which types of books they most enjoy, I couldn’t help but notice the incredible number of books that Annabelle and Audrey in Year 2, have read this term. Annabelle is an avid reader and has read over 100 books since September! She reads a variety of books at home and at school and one of her favourite series of books is ‘The Rescue Princesses’ by Paula Harrison. She told me she really enjoyed ‘The Amber Necklace.’ Super well-done Annabelle, keep this up! Audrey has also read an impressive number of books and in addition, has started writing her own book reviews in her spare time.  One of her favourite books is ‘The Fried Piper of Hamstring’ by Laurence Anholt. Audrey told me “I really liked it because it was funny.”  If you are stuck for something new to read, why not take a look at both recommendations?

Mystery Reader: It’s no surprise that our Mystery Reader continues to be a popular story time treat for the children. The teachers love listening to our mystery guests read each week too! The children in 2P were super excited this week when Arabella’s mummy arrived with not one, but two wonderful books to share with them. ‘Koala’s Guide to Sleep’ by Lisa Edwards and Sian Roberts gave the children a useful lesson on why sleep is so important, and ‘The Timid Frog,’ by Catherine Veitch tells the story of a giant tree frog who lives in Australia, fitting perfectly with Year 2 global studies this week. What a perfect treat during National Storyteller’s Week! Thank you to all our mystery readers who regularly give up their time to come in and read with the children.

Book Corner: Some of the children in Reception have truly been making the most of their cosy new book corner and the dressing up box!   A wonderful storytelling session, including a few traditional tales and ‘Do not Open This Book’ (one of their class favourites) was enjoyed by all.  The love and enjoyment the children get from sharing books and stories together in Reception, is a daily delight for us here in Pre-Prep.
