This morning’s Today programme on Radio 4 featured Old Caterhamian Geoffrey Pidgeon speaking about his time as the youngest member of M16 at Bletchley Park during WWII. Geoffrey discussed newly discovered and extremely rare footage, which featured the Pidgeon family, of the essential work undertaken there and which shortened the war considerably.

You can read more about Geoffrey’s time at Bletchley Park, and at Caterham, in the latest edition of our community magazine, Omnia – click here

Geoffrey is still activelinvolved in supporting the school, supporting the students’ humanities magazine Cat Amongst the Pigeons, and the annual Pidgeon Prize at the senior school Speech Day.

In the final week of school before the Easter holiday, Geoffrey, who is now into his 90s, telephoned the school to check that pupils and staff were ok. He was pleased to learn that students were using technology to continue learning. Geoffrey helped lay the wireless communications in Normandy that enabled the D Day landings.
