Pupil Voice Leads to Auntie Louise’s Honey BBQ Chicken!
Each year, a member of the Senior Management Team meets individually with every pupil to ask an important question: How can we make school even better?
These conversations never fail to bring out imaginative, thoughtful and often inspiring ideas from our pupils. This year, one particular suggestion stood out – Emily’s wish to see her Auntie Louise’s famous Honey BBQ Chicken served in our dining hall!
The challenge was set, and our Catering Manager, Kate, rose to meet it with enthusiasm. After a persuasive phone call to Lodestone House Head Office, she secured permission to add the dish to our menu as part of our Family Favourites Theme Day. From there, the team carried out taste tests, ensured all nutritional standards were met, and finally brought the idea to life.
Today, pupils enjoyed their first taste of the now-legendary Honey BBQ Chicken, served alongside Mrs. Matlock’s pesto pasta bake and Chef Mark’s much-loved jam sponge with custard. Judging by the empty plates, Emily’s idea was a definite success!
But the improvements didn’t stop with the menu. Following a request from the Food Council, new floor stickers have appeared in the dining hall this week to remind pupils to stay quiet in the queue. This small but thoughtful change helps our lunch staff hear food choices clearly and keeps service running smoothly for everyone.
From menu ideas to improvements in the dining hall, our pupils’ suggestions make a genuine difference. We look forward to seeing what they come up with next.
