Strings Shine at Year 2 Music Showcase

This week, our talented Year 2 pupils took to the Soderberg stage to share what they’ve been learning in their music lessons this term. Performing on violin, viola and cello, the children played three contrasting pieces: the laid-back Manhattan Blues, a lively Jig, and a magical arrangement of Harry Potter.

The audience also had the opportunity to meet the dedicated team behind the music-making: Mrs Flanagan (Head of Prep Music), Mrs Quinton (cello), Mr Bayley (violin and viola), and Dr Brammeld (Head of Instrumental Music).

Before the concert drew to a close, parents were introduced to the next steps for budding musicians, including how to apply for individual music lessons for Year 3 and information about the wind and brass scheme beginning in Autumn of Year 3 where children will learn to play the clarinet, flute, saxophone, trombone and cornet.

The concert concluded with three inspiring performances from our accomplished Year 6 pupils: Tilly played a beautiful rendition of Over the Rainbow on the cello, Cece performed Mozart’s Divertimento on the viola, and Marble gave a dazzling performance of Czardas on the violin — a fitting end to a thoroughly enjoyable morning.
