Super Season Starter
The boy’s hockey season got off to a super start last week; the U8s worked hard in lessons on their skills and internal matches and the U9s took a trip to Copthorne for a round robin of mini games. It was a great opportunity, and each team played four mini matches, with plenty of goals across the pitches. The U10/11s travelled to Radnor House for their opening game in the sunshine. The As got off the mark with an early strike by Vish S and dominated the play despite some excellent defensive work by the opposition. An unlucky deflection off a Caterham stick levelled the score, but the boys pushed on and eventually found the back of the net after a flurry of action in the D. A good all-round performance. The Bs and Cs battled hard with both teams conceding just the one goal and the Ds struck on the final whistle to steal the win 1-0.
This week, we hosted RSM and Aberdour for a triangular competition. The As had an end to end battle with RSM, who managed to poke the ball across the line to steal the win. The boys were lucky to have extra words of encouragement and feedback from senior hockey staff and 1st team senior school hockey players and former Prep pupils, Ava and Coral, they were determined to make amends against Aberdour. With a strong start and emphasis of attacking down the right, momentum grew, and Caterham started to break through the defence. Some super keeping and a penalty shuffle save, kept Aberdour in the game before a cool-headed Leo S stepped up for the second shuffle, slotting the ball into the corner. The Bs held RSM to a 0-0 draw with some excellent keeping by Hugo K and overall teamplay, and Aberdour took the win in game two by a single goal.
The U9s rounded off the week with a trip to Aberdour and it was great to see the boys putting some of their skills practise into action during match play. Next week, the U8s have their first experience of mini matches at Copthorne, the Colts also travel to Copthorne whilst the U9s will head to Radnor House.
