Year 1 Nature Detectives on the Case!
This week, Year 1 has been learning how to tell the difference between wild and garden plants. The children enjoyed going on a plant hunt around the school grounds, spotting and identifying a wide variety of plants.
As we explored, the children were quick to point out which plants were wild — those that grow naturally, often spread by the wind or birds — and which were garden plants, planted and cared for by people.
There was lots of excitement when we talked about plant names and interesting facts, especially about blackberries! The children were fascinated to learn that blackberries aren’t actually true berries but are a type of aggregate fruit. Each “berry” is made up of lots of tiny drupelets, each containing its own seed.
