Year 1 Wonder at Woodlice
The children in Year 1 all decided they would all like to learn about Woodlice. What fun they had learning about and investigating these phenomenal creatures! Woodlice are closely related to crabs and lobsters; they also have blue blood and breathe through gills. The children were astonished to find out that Woodlice turn blue if they are not feeling well and that they like to live in groups, as they are social creatures. We also discovered that female Woodlice have a light underside and that the male Woodlice have a darker underside, this is because the mummy Woodlice has a white pouch under her belly that carries the eggs and baby Woodlice when they hatch. The baby Woodlice stay in this pouch until they are ready to leave their mum. We all learned that Woodlice are truly amazing!
