Year 4 explores Henley Fort
After a smooth coach ride to Guildford, our fearless Year 4 explorers began their ascent to Henley Fort, soaking in stunning views of the town and rolling countryside. Once on site, a quick welcome briefing set the tone for the adventure ahead.
Their first challenge? A series of team-based tasks that put their problem-solving and communication skills to the test. With great energy and determination, the pupils tackled each activity, demonstrating fantastic cooperation. Later, it was time to settle into their yurts and face the classic challenge—making their beds! Results varied, but the spirit of teamwork shone through, with confident campers lending a hand to those still mastering the art of duvet wrestling.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, the group set off on an evening hike. Clear skies revealed distant views of London’s skyline, including the iconic Shard. Along the way, they gathered firewood and enjoyed energetic games like “running rock-paper-scissors” and the hilariously competitive “octopus crossing.” By 9:45pm, the campsite was quiet with everyone fast asleep after an action-packed day.
The next morning kicked off bright and early with a hearty cooked breakfast before diving into another round of exhilarating activities: climbing, bouldering, archery, orienteering, and woodland survival. Pupils pushed their limits on the climbing wall and showed grit and resilience as they learned to spark a fire from scratch.
Evening two brought more campfire fun—marshmallows roasted to perfection, spirited singing, and a lively game of kick rounders beneath the setting sky. With tired legs and happy hearts, everyone settled in for a slightly earlier bedtime.
On the final morning, after one last cooked breakfast, the children faced their last set of challenges. They gave it their all, displaying impressive teamwork, resilience, and a deep sense of personal growth. With a final stroll back to the coach, spirits were high and memories were made.
Throughout the trip, our pupils were outstanding—supportive, independent, and proud of what they achieved together. A huge well done to all the children—your Henley Fort teachers are incredibly proud of you!
