Year Four and Five Science Collab

Year Four and Five Science Collab

It was a fantastic show of support, collaboration, turn taking, kind understanding and sharing amongst paired groups of Year 4 and Year 5 pupils in science this week.

The two year groups were teamed up to learn some critical digital skills in PowerPoint. In Year 5 and Year 6 all children in science are given the opportunity to access science resources using PowerPoint as a digital book format. This opens so much potential for innovative learning and recording of data – interactive games, diagrams, methods, tables and graphs can be used and modified by the students to tailor learning precisely. Recording results using photographs, videos and ‘what happened’ guides mean the excitement of discovering new outcomes from practical investigations can be relived at any time, and not just from memory or hand drawings.

The Year 5s are absolute pro hands on PowerPoint now and were fantastic buddying up to show Year 4 how much fun it can be to use, as well as teaching them new skills such as saving to Teams, screen shot drop ins, copy and paste, using a stylus to write, typing in a text box and how to overcome issues if they arise.

With the PowerPoints in place and set up ready, Year 4 started the actual experiment to see how different liquids affect eggshells as an analogue for their own teeth. Predictions made and recorded, we also took and uploaded ‘before’ photographs and noted down any early observations from when the eggs were first submerged.

The eggs will stay in place for a whole week, and we will update our PowerPoints with our results which will include photos and videos of any shell changes.
