MS. M. SHAH

Trustee

Chair of Trustees

Monisha is a media professional with experience of broadcast and digital media. Her current Board appointments include Ofcom’s Content Board and the Office for Students, the Higher Education regulator for England. She is the senior independent member (Chair) of the Arts and Humanities Research Council (UKRI) and also Chair of the Queen’s Counsel Appointments Panel. In a voluntary capacity, she serves as Trustee of the Art Fund and chairs Wikimedia UK. In previous roles, she has served as Trustee of Tate, National Gallery, Foundling Museum and the Donmar Warehouse. She was also Chair of Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance for 6 years. In December 2015, Monisha was invited by the Prime Minister to join the Committee on Standards in Public Life. Her last executive role was at BBC Worldwide, where she worked for 10 years before stepping down in 2010. Monisha has a post-graduate degree from SOAS, an executive MBA from the London Business School and was elected Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum.

MR. C. BOUTTLE

Honorary Treasurer

Chris Bouttle was educated at Reigate Grammar school (1980 -1986) he then went on to join the graduate training programme at Marks & Spencer plc, where he qualified as a Chartered Management Accountant.

He is currently the Finance Director for World Duty Free Group UK Ltd the principle UK operating subsidiary of Dufry AG, the market leader in travel Retail.

He chairs both the Finance & General Purposes Committee and the Investment Committee and is a member of the Prep School Committee.

The Reverend Bridget J Banks

Trustee

Bridget Banks was educated at Lavant House school and then went on to do A levels before completing nursing at Southampton University School of Nursing. She did Midwifery at Oxford and then did various research projects for the Department of Health and Oxford University.

While training for the Ministry in the United Reformed Church she worked as a Community Development consultant. She was ordained in July 2006 and has recently been inducted as Moderator of Southern Synod. She now has care for over 140 churches and 48 ministers.

Bridget is the United Reformed Church appointed Trustee and is a member of the Welfare, Child Protection & Safeguarding Committee.

MR. O. BYRNE

Trustee

Oliver is an Old Caterhamian and a practising solicitor. After leaving Caterham he studied Politics (B.A. Hons) at the University of Warwick and undertook his legal studies at Nottingham Law School. After qualifying in 2007, he worked for a number of years for various City law firms before moving to in-house legal roles. He is currently General Counsel of Trident Energy, an exploration and production company with a focus on emerging markets.

He is a member of the Compliance Committee and the Welfare, Child Protection and Safeguarding Committee.

DR. S.R. CRITCHLEY

Trustee

Stephen Critchley was educated at Leeds Grammar School and Oriel College, Oxford, where he read Chemistry. After a spell in industry, he returned to the University and was awarded a D. Phil. in X-ray Crystallography. He subsequently trained as a Chartered Accountant and had a wide-ranging career in the accountancy profession, latterly leading the Public Sector practice of PwC in the East Midlands. He left the profession to become Chief Finance Officer of Transport for London from which he has recently retired.

Stephen is a Trustee of the RAF Benevolent Fund, sits on the Finance Committee and the Risk and Audit Committee of United Learning and is a member of the Audit Committee of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He is also actively involved in community activities in his local village.

He is a member of the Finance & General Purposes Committee and the Investment Committee.

MS. A. FLETCHER

Chair of Prep the Committee

Anne is a highly experienced Early Years childcare professional and was the Manager of the Ide Hill Pre-School for some 14 years.

She joined Ide Hill C E Primary School as a Governor in October 2009 with the key focus on Early Years and Transitions. She was appointed Chair of Governors in 2012. 

Three of her children attended Caterham School and during that time she was the Chair of the Parents’ Association for three years.

Anne is a longstanding member of the Caterham School Foundation.

In addition to being the Chair of the Prep Committee, she is also a member of the Compliance and Welfare, Child Protection & Safeguarding Committees.

MS. D. GRIMASON

Trustee

Deborah was brought up in Northern Ireland and was educated in Dungannon High School for Girls Grammar and is a Solicitor of the Supreme Court and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries. Deborah studied English Literature and Philosophy (B.A. Hons) and undertook a conversation law degree and solicitors finals at Christleton Hall Law School. After qualifying in 1987, Deborah has worked as a lawyer mostly in international industry roles, but also in private practice in London. She is currently General Counsel and Company Secretary to the Board of Ceres Power, a UK – based engineering and technology solutions provider, developing clean energy to address climate change and improve air quality.
 
Deborah is the chair of the Compliance Committee and the Welfare, Child Protection and Safeguarding Committee.

MR M. MEAR

Trustee

Mark was educated at Caterham School (1976-1985), has been a member of the School Foundation since 2017 and was Vice-President of the Old Caterhamians’ Association from 2018 to 2021. He joined the Caterham School Board in early 2019.

After leaving Caterham, Mark studied Combined Honours, Business and French, at Aston University (including the award of a Licence d’Anglais at The University of Orléans), and went straight on to complete an MBA at Aston Business School.

Mark is a commercial and people specialist and his career, over some 30 plus years, has been principally focused on the development of talent within some of the UK’s leading insurance broking and retail leisure businesses as a Strategic Consultant, Operations Director and Sales Director – most notably as a senior Executive Director and shareholder at the Saga Group for some eleven years.

Since 2021, Mark has been the Managing Director of a Property Investment business, but regularly consults on an ad-hoc basis in the world of financial services and commercial operations.

Mark is a local resident and has had two children go through Caterham since Nursery, one now at University and one in the Senior School.

Mark is a member of both the Prep and Compliance Committees and takes the lead on behalf of the trustees on projects with a commercial focus.

MR M.H.P. SMITH

Trustee

An Old Caterhamian, Mark Smith joined the Board in 2016.  He is the founder and CEO of ADA, the National College for Digital Skills.  This is the first higher education college to be founded in recent years and is the first of its kind. 

Mark is the Chair of the Senior Academic Policy Committee.

MS. M. WHENMAN

Trustee

Mary was educated at Caterham School (1985-1987) and served as Vice-President of the Old Caterhamians Association for three years until March 2018. Mary joined the Caterham School Board in 2018.

After leaving Caterham, Mary studied Business Studies at Bournemouth University and has since pursued a career in public relations. Mary is Director, Communications at the British Business Bank, the UK’s government-owned, business development bank. Mary brings extensive reputation management and communications capabilities to the Board of Trustees. She is also a diversity advocate within her industry and is recent, past President of Women in PR, an advocacy and networking group for senior women working in the communications industry. In 2018, Mary was made a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations in recognition of her 25+ years’ contribution to the profession.

Mary is married and lives in Surrey with her husband and three sons, one of whom is a pupil at Caterham.

Mary is a member of the Welfare, Child Protection & Safeguarding Committee.
